Nuffield completes investment in clean bill of health
Healthcare Market News - Next week marks the completion of the final phase of Nuffield Health’s £27 million investment programme in its hospital decontamination services, on time and on budget, when Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital is supplied with the sixth and final unit in a national network of state-of-the-art Hospital Sterile Service Units (HSSUs) opened by the charity in the past tw

Working to a ‘hub and spoke’ model, the HSSUs have the capability and capacity to provide decontamination services not only to the Nuffield Health hospitals but also to other primary and secondary care providers in both the public and private sectors. And they are expected to supply a total of 13 million instruments to Nuffield Health and other providers during the course of this year.

‘We started this programme of investment four years ago as we believed no other suitable solution existed to achieving the required standards of patient safety,’ said Dr Andy Jones, Nuffield Health’s group medical director. ‘To date, these units have reduced ‘defect rates’ to about half that of the accepted national average and reduced other problems that can be caused by sterilisation or decontamination issues,’ he said.
